NCAA College Football 2009 Preview (part I)

August 28th, 2009

Few experiences in life compare to a Saturday afternoon spent perched on a slab of metal benches cramped between your friends, and fellow alumni screaming and investing every ounce of effort cheering on your favorite team. College football is as American as tailgate parties, your favorite Game Day T-shirt, that lucky Under Armour hoodie, and the annoying fan in front of you that only knows 2 vulgar phrases to repeatedly yell at the opposing team whilst rabidly waving his/her incredulous pterodactyl-like wingspan in your direct line of view the whole game.

Brett Favre To Play For The Minnesota Vikings

August 18th, 2009

Fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice, shame on Aaron Rodgers. By now as the sports news of the week has hit the waves and hit Green Bay Packer fans in the nads, yours truly finds himself in the midst of an internal struggle. Despite contradictory evidence, I personally always (cough) “try” to find the more pleasurable aspects of sports (hence the namesake of this website). However I cannot help but feel incredulous skepticism (holding back some punches) regarding the Brett Favre retirement carousel. My objectivity knows no bounds, until blind emotions wash over me like the copious amounts of rain has been washing over West Texas all summer.

How To Win Your Fantasy Football League (part II)

August 16th, 2009

PetersonIt’s Sunday afternoon, and you’re sitting at home lounged by the computer waiting for your turn to snake around in the 4th round of your fantasy football draft as you struggle to decide between solidifying your bench with another solid if unspectacular veteran RB, picking up your first WR, or reaching for that relatively unknown yet talented rookie RB.

Personally, I would venture to declare that 90% of the fun of joining a football fantasy league is the draft itself. Sure winners and losers are separated by astute waiver-wire stalking to unearth that initially-forgotten but now hot FA player that has stepped into the fantasy limelight, be it through a sudden rise due to a timely yet not so timely injury to the guy ahead of him on the depth charts, or the sudden influx of playing time due to the mediocrity of the guy in front of him on the depth charts. Nevertheless, unless you consider the karma-killing season ending injury, most of the blue chip players you take on draft day will stay with you through the end of the season.

How To Win Your Fantasy Football League (part I)

August 9th, 2009

Playing fantasy football isn’t just a craze. It isn’t just an excuse for “nerds” to channel their inner dork-ness towards a hobby that seems hip. If anything fantasy football is the ultimate conversation starter. Not only does it bring a wider audience and more intense fandom to the game, it lends itself to camaraderie, increased interest in pigskin sports, and mostly a degree of intimacy with professional football players that rarely existed before the advent of fantasy football and the internet.

Michael Crabtree Holdout

August 6th, 2009

MichaelCrabtree 5It’s hard to be impartial in regard to the Crabtree vs. 49ers salary dispute when one Michael Crabtree happens to be this “columnist’s” all-time favorite collegiate football player (well if Crabtree is number 1, then Kliff Kingsbury would be 1A). What’s not to love about a classically brash and flash wide receiver with glue for hands, the strength of a thoroughbred, and the personal stamp of approval from Deion Sanders? Not to mention, he was famously recruited by Bob Knight (Oh the Red Raiders could have used some help as their basketball program leaves much left to be desired) to play basketball for him? Nevertheless in the name of journalistic integrity and much to the chagrin of readers who don’t give a flying flip about Texas Tech, we’ll just have to make do with my attempts at objectivity and space-fillers until the NFL season officially kicks off.
